koh tao... scuba scuba

We posted up in Koh Tao for about a week in order to get Open Water Diver certified and it was a blast! While the island is packed full of tourists, dive shops and too many bars to count... we enjoyed our time there immensely. Each day we woke up, went to the dive shop for class, went on a dive or two and then spent the rest of the day enjoying the beach and hanging out with our fellow divers at night... terrible lives we have :)

Learning to dive has been quite the adventure... I've been introduced to a whole new world filled with technical terms, strange equipment, amazing settings and pretty fantastic people. Our instructor was a German version of Arnold Schwarzenegger who made us giggle every time he said "vater."  Going through the underwater tests like taking your mask off, switching to your buddy's secondary air source, navigating if lost, emergency surfacing, etc. was all kinda scary at the start but nothing too difficult. Once we got comfortable it was like an introduction into a different universe. Being able to breath, explore, and swim freely underwater is an out of this world experience where colorful corals, amazing schools of fish, sharks, stindrays, huge turtles, etc. all await you. It's wonderful! Can't wait until we get to Malaysia and get to go on another dive.

Each day ended with one of these beautiful sunsets...

If anyone out there can pull off the wetsuit look and not look like a complete goof, as we clearly did, my hat goes off to you.
Another lovely sunset with the fishing boats docked in their places for the day
