Welcome to Laos, yall!

After a LONG day of buses- first 4 hours from Halong Bay to Hanoi then 20 hours from Hanoi to Vientiane- we've arrived in Laos!  Known for being the most laid back and least touristy country in SE Asia, we have been excited to see what Laos has to offer...

First stop is the capital, Vientiane, a riverside town that has as many bakeries as it does temples and the pace is markedly slower than the other major cities we've come across so far in Asia.  An old french colony, Vientiane definitely shows its french influence with baguettes for sale on the corners alongside the typical noodle-soup dishes.

Here we are below at Pha That Luang, the most important national monument in Laos and the World Peace Gong...

After Vientiane we headed to Luang Prabang, a town 10 hours north of the capitol known for its monk-filled streets, waterfalls, night market and cafe-culture kind of atmosphere. It's somewhere I have been looking forward to for a long time and it truly is a lovely place to be.

Vasae heads back to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand to finish some dental work (surprisingly cheap and professional in Thailand- who woulda thought?) and I'm heading down to southern Laos solo.  We'll meet back up in Bangkok from where we'll head to the islands down south!
